Staying here was my first WWOOF experience, and I don't think I could have found a better place. Wonderful, interesting people, full of kindness. The atmosphere of this place will stay with me for a long time. I hope I will be able to visit them again, help out, drink delicious tea together, and talk.

This was my very first WWOOF and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
I don’t speak any Korean, but everyone is incredibly kind, welcoming, and happy to help. In just a couple weeks I learned a lot about tea, meditation, and Buddhism. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, be curious, and use a translator if you need to!
The work in September consists of chopping “fake bamboo” in the forest, sorting tea, and cleaning around the farm. The work could be slightly tedious, but it was chill, meditative, and the WWOOFers would listen to music together. Working in the forest, sitting by the river, and always having a view of the mountains was peaceful and made you feel connected to nature. The daily schedule provided a nice structure without feeling repetitive, and there were a couple special occasions where we went out to dinner in town and went to a traditional Korean music concert. I tried meditation for the first time and loved starting every day with it. The meals were delicious and of course you can have tea any time you want! Hwaeomsa Temple is a short walk away and you can watch the drum ceremonies at sunset. On our day off we hiked Nogodan Peak where you can see all of Jirisan National Park.
Overall, my time was absolutely beautiful. I felt immersed in the culture and the people there truly make it special. I can’t wait to come back one day!

My stay at Gucheung-Am was really meaningful. Although my first impression was not amazing due to a lack of communication, after a few days I felt very comfortable here. I made strong connections with other wwoofers and volunteers at the farm and listening to Sunim share his experiences at tea time was really interesting (even through google translate). The best part of staying here is being surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Jirisan National Park and sitting by the river that flows near the temple, as long as you’re willing to get a few mosquito bites. While the work is usually very monotonous (cutting plants all day), it is refreshing to spend all your time in the forest working with nature. The tea is delicious and I felt a positive change in my body and mind, drinking it all the time. The quality of the food is also great, although it’s usually the same thing for every meal (kim chi, rice, soup, etc.), but this just makes it even better when the cook decides to make something special! On days where we felt cooped up at the temple, we would go into town and eat at delicious restaurants and drink beer or shop around the local market. I also recommend hiking up Nogodan on a Monday (off day) if you’re staying here. You can access the hiking trail from the temple and it’s really beautiful. I really recommend this place for anyone who wants to make friends from all over the world (including Korea) and to live amongst some of the most beautiful nature you’ve ever seen.

My time at Gucheung-Am was wonderful. Although I was initially advised not to come at this time of year (mid July) due to the heat, I still had a great time here due to the beauty of the temple and the surrounding areas as well as the kindness of the people.
The work I did involved packing tea, weeding, and building software to manage tea inventory. Packing tea and weeding was very meditative and creating the software was a novel experience that allowed me to learn more about the tea business.
My favourite parts of my experience were the people, food, and nature. Everyone was extremely kind, I learned a lot from speaking to others and learning their stories. The food was absolutely spectacular—I gained a new appreciation for homemade Korean food and all of the unique banchan. Finally, I really enjoyed going on hikes through Jirisan national park.
This was a very enriching experience that made my time in Korea very lovely. Although people were willing to translate for me and many spoke English, your experience will be even better if you come in knowing some Korean. This would also be a great place to quickly improve your Korean skills as well!

Hello!
Hwaeom Gucheung Jeda is a place of stunning landscapes and deep tranquility. Nestled beside Jirisan National Park, it offers a peaceful retreat and a unique opportunity to learn about the world of tea and traditional Korean culture.
I highly recommend this experience for those interested in immersion — especially if you speak Korean. The team is incredibly kind and welcoming, and knowing the language will help you connect more deeply and make the most of your time here.
