It was an unforgettable experience during the stay by Gukhee. She is a very energetic woman who works hard everyday to create a more beautiful community in Korean country side. She provided two choices either staying in the traditional hanok house in the popular Hahoe villiage or her house. My son and I decided to stay in her house in the big loft area so that the children can play more together. Her two sons are very friendly so they became friends soon even they didn't understand each other. We made fire for the traditional korean ondol with the help of children, it was a lot of fun. The work was mainly removing weeds in the plots of land, removing the plastic from the fields, and planting seedlings. My teenage son also joined some work and he liked watering the land. In the house I sometimes made some Chinese food and I am happy that they likeed it. Gukhee also showed us around the area, taking us to see the traditional mask dance, going to Korean saunas together for relaxing. It was also good experience to talk to the artists who are invited to the village, through which I get to know more about what Gukhee is doing for her job.

My stay with Gukhee was wonderful. The work was mainly tending to the plots of land in Hahoe Village, where we both prepared a field for usage and planted some saplings as well. The work was nicely divided and everybody worked on the same project together. It was no problem to take a break and rest a bit. When the weather was bad, we worked on some chores around the house, mainly tidying and sorting some stuff. I was able to choose my preferred accommodation, either at Gukhee’s house or the house at Hahoe Village, both of which are traditional hanok houses equipped with running water and electricity. In the Hahoe House, there are different private rooms that fit two people each, and at the other house, there is another room and a loft area where WWOOFers were able to sleep and rest. For the meals, we went shopping together and sometimes prepared and ate the food together. There are, however, no grocery stores or convenience stores easily accessible by foot close to either of the two houses, so shopping has to be coordinated. Gukhee also showed me around the area, taking me shopping in traditional markets, going to Korean saunas together, visiting local festivals, and even taking me to an overnight event at Jirisan Mountain. That way, I was able to see so many hidden spots and get a feeling for day-to-day life in the Korean countryside.
